Paper silk, explained

Paper silk sits between chiffon and raw silk. It is lighter than raw silk so it does not weigh on the shoulders, but it has a crisp finish rather than a fluid one — the shirt moves as a panel rather than clinging. In practice it is the most comfortable fabric in this collection for a warm room or a summer function.

Mirrorwork, and looking after it

The embroidery combines traditional tilla, resham threadwork and mirrorwork across the neckline and borders. Mirrors give movement and shine that sequins cannot, because they reflect rather than glitter. They do need slightly more care: keep the dupatta folded separately in storage so the mirror edges do not catch on the organza, and always dry clean.

A daytime colour

Mint blue is at its best in natural light, where the mirrorwork actually has something to reflect. Eid mornings, mehndi lunches, daytime nikkah ceremonies. Under heavy evening lighting it will read paler than it does in the photographs.

Silver, kundan or pearl jewellery follows the mirrorwork. Gold works but fights it slightly.

What is the difference between paper silk and raw silk?

Weight and finish. Raw silk is heavier with a slubbed texture; paper silk is lighter with a smoother, crisper surface. Raw silk holds a more structured shape, paper silk is cooler to wear.

Will the mirrorwork catch on things?

The mirrors are set into thread frames rather than glued, so they are secure, but fine knits and loose-weave shawls can snag on the edges. Keep it away from wool.
